Miami Circle and Hopi Dreams

Miami Circle and Hopi Dreams,

For those who don’t know about the Miami Circle, let me give you some background. In 1998 I was reading an article in the Miami Herald about a archaeological dig near the mouth of the Miami River. A developer had bought this land and wanted to build a $50 million condo project.

I said to myself this cant be true, ancient remains of Indians? Anyway I go down to the site and there are all these people digging and mapping out grids. I meet the main man in charge, Bob Carr and we begin to talk. He tells me they found a perfect 36 foot Circle that is the remains of the Tequesta Natives that lived here 2000 years ago.

So I take some photos and begin to investigate. The developer was set on his project going thru and the Mayor of Miami at that time, Joe Carollo didn’t seam to understand the importance of this ancient site.

They wanted to dig it up and move it to a warehouse. I thought this guys are crazy, so we started this media campaign and all of the sudden an ecliptic group of people join in to save the Miami Circle. The media circus that followed and lawyers with big bucks, not to mention the UFO and New Age folks that got into the game…. Well after more than 2 years fighting to save this memory of history and $26 million of taxpayers money. We have what? A ancient circle that caught international media attention now buried again till the politicians agree on a plan.

Such a shame, but that is life in Miami Politics…Just yesterday (July 28, 2005) , Commissioner Teale, who was on the county commission when we fought this war walks into the Miami Herald building and shoots himself. Dead on arrival.
Alex Penelas, the star Mayor of the past is no where to be seen after losing a run for the senate. Our new Mayor, Carlos Alvarez who was Police chief in 1999 has no clue about the Circle. I asked him on Monday the 25 at the MTV awards press conference on Miami Beach. I called the Metro Dade office asking who is in charge of the fund that had money to save the circle and everyone said that was a long time ago.

So where are we now? The Tequesta Village across from the Circle is now in full development by the Related Group and a project called One Miami. Jorge Perez also owns the property where the old Sheraton Hotel was and Brickell Park. Funny thing is I interviewed Jorge back in the early 90s when I worked for Miami Magazine and he was building the Ocean Club near Brickell. Now he is one of the biggest developers in the US and a humanitarian at heart. One day we are going to have a meeting and share the old times.

Back to the Circle. On Monday the Day Out of Time, I went to the Circle and did a ceremony. I have been going back often to connect with the mystery it still holds.
On Tuesday Hummingbird does her ritual and has keep the area sacred. On August 20th we are going to do a special ceremony starting at the Miami Circle and ending at the Sacred Well near 11st.

Today I had a meeting with Bob Carr, who know now heads the Archaeological and Historical Conservancy, Inc www.flarchaeology.org He is working on the site where the Brickell Park is and the new Icon Building. The site he is on is amazing. It was part of the Miami Circle complex which went 1 mile in all 4 directions. They have found bones underground, many turtle shells, pottery and today they found a human tooth. Near the pool area in the hotel they found a circular hole that when you pour water in ...it get sucked up, connected to underground springs coming from the bay. In the next few days the trees are being pulled out and he will be digging till December. I have known Bob since 98 and he is a unique man. He has knowledge and is patient with his projects. In this business, patience is a must.

Then he tells me the story of an Oklahoma Elder who called him in April 2000. They wanted to see the site. When the 3 Seminoles arrive, he takes them to the Miami Circle -- )O( -- At the circle he is explaining and sees that this elder is praying and kissing the ground...then he realizes his 2 amigos are out of the circle, so he goes out and watches. After an hour the Elder says his Medicine Man back home had a dream. One day before the year 2000, a circle would be found and would be time to unite the sacred loop, the circle of the ancient tribes. They were coming to verify if this was the Circle. Amazing! Anyway we are going to be filming this as the developers are on a fast track.

This past days had many syncs and lots of new insights. During the sunrise ceremony for Day Out of Time, 3 dolphins appear, then at the Circle a Hawk appears. Yesterday I get a call from Sedona, Arizona and a friend named Jon Hellman, he tells me he has heard about my Kogi project and has Grandfather Martin sitting next to him. I couldn’t believe my ears. This is the last traditional Hopi left who has the ancient prophecy still deep in his heart. He explains that they have been doing ceremony for the past 6 months on the original name of the Hopi. The original name is Moki or Moqui and has a connection with Kogi, or Koqui. They want to invite the Kogi to Hopi Mesa and share their message. No Cameras, then we go to Sedona where the Kogi and the ancient tribe will fulfill the Condor ~ Eagle prophecy.

I have been using the owl feathers I found in December of last year and the feeling is the Miami Circle and Sacred Well are well protected.

In the coming weeks I will be posting my thoughts on this new chapter of an never ending sage to find the truth. Or is it that the truth and wisdom is deep inside, under layers of dirt?
See this site for news of a mountain expedition to Kogi land.
